Ryan Vaughn

The outgoing leader of Indiana Sports Corp has landed a new gig with an Indianapolis-based information technology firm.

Ryan Vaughn, who has been president of the nonprofit sports commission since 2014, said Thursday he’ll be the new president and general counsel for Sondhi Solutions.

Vaughn was an initial investor in Sondhi Solutions when it was created by CEO Jason Sondhi in 2009. The firm provides consulting and staffing services for companies across central Indiana, along with application development and information technology management. Its customers include IBJ Media, the parent company of Inside INdiana Business and the Indianapolis Business Journal.

“There are several reasons I found this opportunity so attractive,” Vaughn said in written remarks. “I’ve watched from a distance how [Jason Sondhi] and the team have grown the business and I’m aligned on his vision for where the company can go. I’m also impressed by the company’s commitment to a strong culture with a focus on their core values of trust, attitude, excellence and curiosity.  I truly believe we can accomplish some great things in the future and I’m excited for the new challenge.”

In the role, which starts July 18, Vaughn will oversee day-to-day operations and business development for the firm, while also managing its legal affairs.

Vaughn announced his departure from the Indiana Sports Corp. in May, but he is expected to remain involved with the organization through mid-September in a consulting role. He’s also interim president of SportsTech HQ, a not-for-profit launched this week by ISC and the Indiana Economic Development Corp. that focuses on bringing more technology firms with a sports bent to the state.

During Vaughn’s time as president, the Indiana Sports Corp. hosted or won bids to host an NBA All-Star Game, multiple Big Ten championships, the College Football Playoff National Championship and numerous NCAA tournaments and championships.

He also helped lead the ISC’s ambitious and successful effort to host the entire NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in central Indiana in 2021 during the pandemic.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan join the Sondhi Solutions Leadership team,” Jason Sondhi said in an email to IBJ. “Ryan is a proven leader, his community involvement speaks for itself and he is going to be a valuable asset to this organization. We are excited to have Ryan join us as we continue to grow.”

Vaughn served as chief of staff for former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard from 2012 to 2014, but he has dismissed the idea of running for office—even as his name has come up as a potential candidate for Indianapolis mayor.

Vaughn has also served on the Indianapolis City-County Council and the host committee for the 2012 Super Bowl. He is a graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Wabash College and Indiana University’s law school in Indianapolis.
