Kountry Kitchen breaks ground on new restaurant, event center

Indianapolis soul food restaurant Kountry Kitchen began construction Tuesday on its new restaurant and event center. The groundbreaking comes over two years since a fire destroyed the original building.
This new construction remains at the original location of 1831 N. College Ave in the city’s Kennedy-King neighborhood.
The restaurant reopened in November 2020 at an alternative location at the Ruckus Building and resumed catering and in-person dining orders.
“Our mission is focused on placing customers at the center of everything Isaac and I do by providing quality food and service in a family friendly atmosphere,” said co-owner Cynthia Wilson. “Our new space will allow us to continue to be faithful stewards to the Indianapolis community.”
The rebuild will feature a restaurant and event venue totaling more than 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.
Indoor capacity is projected to be 300, and the rooftop outdoor space will accommodate 120 to 150 guests. Kountry Kitchen was able to acquire a $400,000 grant from Insight Development for the construction project.
Kountry Kitchen anticipates 20 to 30 new jobs will be brought to the neighborhood once construction is completed, but a completion date has not yet been determined.
