INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the fourth month in a row Indiana's private sector has experienced significant growth, as July's job gains totaled 5,900. The Trade, Transportation and Utilities (+10,800) and Professional & Business Services (+4,100) sectors far outweighed losses in the Construction (-3,400) and Manufacturing (-2,000) sectors. The Hoosier State has now added over 203,000 private sector jobs since July 2009, the low point of employment in Indiana, and has grown jobs in 40 out of the past 43 months.
Indiana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 8.4 percent in July, which continues to be a stark contrast to ongoing sizable job growth.
“The Trade, Transportation and Utilities sector experienced the largest one-month growth since 1990,” said Scott B. Sanders, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. “Initial claims for unemployment insurance in 2013 have been at their lowest levels since 2000, the peak of employment in The Hoosier State.”
