Indy Set For ‘Monumental’ Weekend

Visit Indy says events such as Gen Con and the Red Bull Indianapolis GP will bring in people from around the world. Vice President of Marketing and Communications Chris Gahl says the city has proven it is prepared to handle multiple major events. Last year, Inside INdiana Business Reporter Andy Ober reported on the economic impact of Gen Con. Gen Con alone is expected to draw about 45,000 visitors and generate $47 million in economic impact. Gahl says the gaming event is the most lucrative convention the city hosts annually.
Gahl says this weekend's motorcycle race has additional benefit to the city because it draws affluent fans from around the world. He says many are corporate decision makers who may choose to bring meetings or events to Indianapolis.
Gahl says Gen Con attendees tend to be a very social crowd, meaning Indianapolis receives positive publicity through tweets and other social media posts from thousands of gamers.
Gen Con runs August 15-18 at the Indiana Convention Center.
The Red Bull Indianapolis GP is Sunday, August 18 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
This weekend also features two Indianapolis Indians home games and the IndyFringe theater festival.
