WASHINGTON, D.C. – The International Trade Administration (ITA) today announced that new data shows Indiana merchandise exports increased 1 percent in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period of 2012, growing from $17.2 billion to $17.4 billion. This was a record high export level for the state.
“This new export data from the first half of 2013 show states across the country have more businesses marketing their products abroad and creating thousands of new jobs in their local communities. This data confirms that our efforts to help American businesses compete globally are having an impact right here in Indiana,” said Francisco S?nchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade. “The United States is selling more goods and services to the rest of the world than ever before. The International Trade Administration will continue to do everything we can to assist Indiana businesses as they increase their exports and create jobs.”
Indiana's merchandise export sales in the first half of 2013 outpaced the 2012 figures in many top destinations, including: Saudi Arabia (+107 percent); the Netherlands (+74 percent); Brazil (+53 percent); Japan (+27 percent); and Korea (+26 percent). Key merchandise export categories include: transportation equipment; chemicals; machinery manufactures; miscellaneous manufactures; and computer and electronic products.
“Our office would like to help local companies realize their export potential and assist them in navigating global markets,” said Mark Cooper, Director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Indianapolis. “Ninety-five percent of the world's potential customers are outside of the United States and exporting can help companies thrive in this economy.”
