KOKOMO, Ind. – The City of Kokomo has announced an increase in the number of routes and service areas after putting two new City-Line Trolleys in service.
“It's great to be able to extend Kokomo's public transportation service and keep it free of charge at a time of ridership growth,” said Mayor Greg Goodnight. “The new trolleys and expanded routes connect more residential neighborhoods to our parks, schools, medical service facilities and shopping areas.”
In 1964, Kokomo discontinued its public bus system. In 2010, the City of Kokomo introduced the City-Line Trolley as free public transit, and the demand for its service has steadily increased.
“Most news surrounding public transportation entails cuts to service and increasing fees,” said Tammy Corn, Transportation Director. “Kokomo stands out for responding to its public transportation need by providing transit options to residents who cannot drive and to those without access to a car.”
The new routes extend transportation service to the Kokomo High School campus, more doctors' offices, and residential neighborhoods including Indian Heights and several apartment complexes.
City-Line Trolleys are fully accessibility to people with disabilities, equipped with WiFi and run Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. A detailed map of routes and schedules can be found online at www.cityofkokomo.org.
