The e-commerce company says it will construct two buildings totaling nearly 1 million square feet and create more than 1,000 jobs in Elkhart County.
Amazon says the campus will include an 800,000-square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center and a 180,000-square-foot delivery station.
The company says the fulfillment center will be a “state-of-the-art” building, using the latest robotics.
“Amazon’s decision to support Elkhart County is a huge vote of confidence in our workforce development initiatives,” said Suzanne Weirick, president, Elkhart County Board of Commissioners. “Since investments by Amazon tend to attract related industries, we look forward to additional interest in Elkhart County by other high-tech companies.”
Elkhart County is recognized as the RV manufacturing capital of the world and manufactures 80% of RVs and towable trailers in the U.S. Weirick says the Amazon facility will help broaden the county’s economic base.
“The new, high paying jobs in the distribution technology sector also help diversify our local economy and protect us from the national economic fluctuations,” said Weirick.
Coincidentally, the Amazon facilities will be built near the Indiana Toll Road and just north of the RV Hall of Fame.
Amazon says both facilities are scheduled to launch in 2023.
