(NYSE: DE) manufacturing executive Daryl Peterson to be the first managing director of the university’s Engineering Innovation Hub. The new 10,000-square-foot facility is under construction on the first floor of the Cushing-Fitzpatrick Halls of Engineering.
Notre Dame says Peterson will oversee the coordination and management of the Hub’s technology, programs and outreach. Peterson previously led Deere’s Enterprise Digital Capability Lab, which the university says is designed to develop engineers as they work to discover new technologies in AI, additive manufacturing and robotics.
“This facility, and the experiential learning it will support, represents a critical step forward for engineering and industry engagement at Notre Dame,” said Patricia Culligan, dean of the Notre Dame College of Engineering. “Daryl’s impressive experience in industry and his commitment to the development of both people and products is a great fit for this role.”
Peterson has also been named a professor of the practice in the College of Engineering at Notre Dame.
Notre Dame says the new hub is expected to be operational by this summer.
For Peterson, it is a return to Indiana. He earned his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
