FullStack Inc., which provides human resources services for small businesses, says it will invest $112,000 to grow its Indy operations and create up to 21 jobs over the next several years. The company, which is headquartered in the Broad Ripple neighborhood, has already hired four full-time employees toward its goal.
Michael Kelly, co-founder and chief executive officer of FullStack, tells Inside INdiana Business the company has been “growing like crazy” over the last few years.
“As we’ve been thinking about what continued growth looks like for us, a big part of that was trying to figure out where we want to hire, particularly during a time of COVID when you can have employees anywhere because nobody is really going into the office these days,” said Kelly. “As we reflected on the team culture that we wanted to build and ideally where we would like to grow our presence, we still feel pretty strong that central Indiana is the right place to be.”
FullStack provides a variety of HR services, including payroll and benefits administration, HR compliance, employee relations support and talent management for small businesses, specifically in the technology sector. Kelly says the need for such services has grown particularly in recent months.
“With COVID-19, we are seeing more and more remote work opportunities – this has led to an increased need for a remote HR services option like ours.,” said Kelly. “We have a lot to build on here in central Indiana and want to continue to invest in the tech and small business communities.”
Kelly says while many businesses are seeing negative effects from the pandemic, the current economic climate has also been beneficial for people looking to start a new venture, which has led to the need for services such as those provided by FullStack.
“If you look back at the market from 2008 to 2010, you saw a very, very large number of startups kind of flourish during that period and even though it was an economic crisis, as people were either laid off from their job or took an early retirement and were trying to figure out what’s next, a lot of those people took that opportunity to start something new and to take a little bit of a risk. And we think this economy right now and certainly for the next couple of years is going to be no different.”
Kelly says the company’s current focus is filling the jobs it needs to continue growth. However, he says they’re also looking at potentially expanding to other types of back office and administrative services that early-stage companies need, such as equity compensation support and back office accounting and bookkeeping.
FullStack currently employs six in Indiana and plans to begin hiring for human resources, payroll, finance, and sales positions in 2021. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered FullStack up to $270,000 in conditional tax credits, which the company will not be eligible to claim until Hoosier workers are are hired for the new jobs.
