Holcomb Wins Reelection, 5th District Race Not Yet Called

In races for the U.S. House of Representatives, there’s no declared winner in the hotly-contested Fifth District Congressional race. With 87% of precincts reporting, Republican Victoria Spartz led with 51% of the vote over Democrat Christina Hale, who had 45%. According to our partners at WISH-TV, absentee ballots in Hamilton County were not counted on Tuesday.
In Madison County, which is part of the 5th district, some voters were not able to cast their votes until nearly ten o’clock Tuesday night, four hours after the polls officially closed statewide. Madison County Clerk Olivia Pratt told WISH-TV the problem stemmed from an argument with county commissioners over the purchase of new voting machines.

In the First Congressional District, Democrat Frank Mrvan defeated Republican Mark Leyva. Mrvan will succeed Rep. Pete Visclosky (D-Gary), who announced his retirement after serving 36 years in Congress. In Indiana’s seven other congressional districts, incumbents won their races.
In the race for Indiana Attorney, former Secretary of State Todd Rokita won with 60% of the vote. He defeated Democrat and former Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel.
While the presidential race has not been decided, President Donald Trump won Indiana with 60% of the vote.
