State Receives $50M to Help Bolster Job Recovery

Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers on Friday announced the launch of the state’s Rapid Recovery for a Better Future initiative, which includes a new online tool to centralize job training and searches.
“The goal…is to streamline access to resources, help Hoosiers identify and pursue a path forward, and reach people through trusted and local outreach networks,” said Lubbers, who also chairs the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet.
The online hub, YourNextStepIn.org, is a clearinghouse of resources, including short-term educational opportunities, career coaching and financial aid guidance.
Governor Eric Holcomb said the initiative provides navigation for those who need help figuring out their next steps.
“It is critical that our state is not only providing these services but actively helping people get connected so they take that next step to a better future,” said Holcomb.
The federal funding will allow the state to provide training to additional 10,000 Indiana residents through the state’s Workforce Ready Grant program.
It also nearly doubles the funding cap for people seeking certifications in high-demand jobs, such as advanced manufacturing.
The Rapid Recovery program also expands the Employer Training Grant, doubling the amount of reimbursable funds to employers
“Taking the next step toward a better future is a manageable way for people to move toward economic and workforce recovery, whether that is reskilling for a different job, finishing a credential or finding a new career,” Lubbers said.
