While the county Area Plan Commission has already drafted and approved an ordinance regulating wind turbines, individual communities must approve zoning changes.
On Thursday night, the Mount Vernon City Council vote 5-0 to reject the proposed zoning changes, according to WEHT-TV. The council is pushing the issue back to the area plan commission for more changes.
The TV station reports the amendment passed the Poseyville Town Council three weeks ago and the Cynthiana Town Council tabled the issue.
The amendment each council votes on is independent of each other and would only affect city limits, not the county.
WEHT reports there are clear battle lines between residents who support the proposed wind farm and those who have concerns about noise from the turbines, property values and potential interference to the National Weather Service Doppler radar in Evansville.
RWE Renewables, a Germany-based renewable energy company, wants to construct a wind farm in the county. WEHT reports the company is talking with landowners about placing wind turbines on their land.
