BlueIndy Calls It Quits in Indy

BlueIndy is pulling the plug on its Indianapolis operations. The electric car-sharing service will end service in May, saying on its website “the service did not reach the level of activity required to be economically viable here.” 

A statement on the site said, “We regret to announce that BlueIndy will end its collaboration with the City of Indianapolis, effective May 21^st, 2020.”

The company launched in Indianapolis in September 2015, the first U.S. market for the France-based company.

BlueIndy says further information has been sent directly to existing customers through their BlueIndy accounts.

“We thank you for your support and for your understanding and remain available for any additional information,” and directed members to BlueIndys’s customer service center.

One month after the 2015 launch, the company told Inside Indiana Business it had attracted more than 500 members who took 1,500 trips during its first month of service. The company said it intended to have 500 electric vehicles and 200 charging stations across the city.
