Nonprofit Clearing Corporation Charitable Foundation donated $1.5 million to create the endowment for the Clearing Corporation Charitable Foundation Chair in Food and Agricultural Marketing and a fund to support students. The $1 million gift toward the chair will be matched by the College of Agriculture Endowed Chair Challenge Matching Gift Program to create a $2 million endowment, with the remaining $500,000 to be used for the student fund.
“Through this gift, we will be able to recruit and retain a faculty member to play a critical role in conducting research, education and extension in the area of agricultural marketing," said Karen Plaut, the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Purdue Agriculture. "Additionally, the gift will increase educational opportunities outside of the classroom for students in the department."
The funding is expected to boost the effort of recruiting an expert in agricultural commodity markets, risk management, food and agriculture systems, and/or other areas. The new faculty member would mentor junior faculty and graduate students, and would teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The newly created student support fund would increase educational experiences, fund activities in academic competitions, travel expenses and would help create learning environments.
