Zartman to Lead Army National Guard Battalion

Andy Zartman will take command of the Indiana Army National Guard’s recruiting and retention battalion. He will transition from Indiana’s recruit battalion of approximately 1,100 recruits to that battalion’s headquarters of more than 1,500 soldiers.
A combat veteran serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, Zartman has served in units throughout the state including in Logansport, Jasper, New Albany, Madison and Lawrence with the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, where he served as the full-time operations officer and led the unit through a warfighter exercise and a Joint Readiness Training Center rotation
Zartman enlisted in the Indiana National Guard in 1998 as a truck driver with the 2nd Battalion, 293rd Infantry Regiment. He commissioned as a second lieutenant and infantry officer in 2002 through National Guard Bureau’s Officer Candidate School.
In his military career Zartman’s earned the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge and Silver Spurs with 1st Squadron, 152nd Cavalry Regiment in 2019.
