Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report financial details of the sale, which includes the adjacent swimming pool, are not being disclosed.
The YMCA sold the building to Ohio-based Episcopal Retirement Services, which opened senior apartments in the upper floors of the building in 2014, according to the publication. Mark Springer, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Madison County, says the organization will lease its current space in the building for the next five years.
"This is a part of our five-year strategic plan," Springer said. "The properties committee of the board of directors has conducted a marketing study and is determining the next best step. The YMCA will continue to serve the Anderson community. We have seen significant growth in our youth and adult programs."
Springer says a recently-completed needs assessment study determined the building no longer fits the organization’s needs. He says the YMCA is looking at potential new locations in Anderson.
