Whitestown Reports Population Boom

The town says the increase makes it eligible for nearly $1.5 million in additional state and federal funding over the next five years, as well as several new liquor licenses.
Town Council President Eric Miller says the additional funding will help the community with priorities like roads, trails and other amenities. He says adding walking and biking paths and improving quality of life are "top priorities as we grow."
Town Manager Dax Norton says the new liquor licenses can also be used as an economic development tool. He says it allows the town "to attract more high-end restaurants and brew pubs to Whitestown, which our residents have been asking for."
The special census by the U.S. Census Bureau shows Whitestown’s population grew from 2,867 in 2010 to 7,814 by November 2016. The town says the average age of residents dropped to 30.7, which it says makes it among the youngest communities in the state. Town leaders add that projections suggest the growth will continue, to the tune of about 12,000 residents by 2020.
Whitestown has marked several economic development announcements in recent months. Last month, St. Louis-based pharmaceutical delivery company Express Scripts said it would add a shift at its Whitestown plant and add 160 jobs. In February, Pre-Cast Concrete Systems Inc. announced plans to invest more than $1.5 million into an expansion, resulting in more than three dozen new hires over the next four years.
