The News and Tribune reports the Clarksville Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a use variance for the potential location just off I-65.
The convenience store and gas station would be located at the site of a former Red Robin restaurant on Veterans Parkway. Wawa Real Estate Manager Lisa Corpus told the board the 24-hour location would employ about 40 people.
“(This is) taking another step in the process to getting there,” Corpus said. “Clarksville is a great connector to Louisville and a great corridor. It’s got lots of retail, it’s popular and we want to be part of the community.”
If Wawa decides to move forward with a Clarksville location, the company would need to create a development plan and present it to town officials, according to the publication.
In December, Wawa announced plans to expand into Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky and said it was looking several locations that could open “sometime after 2025.”
Last month, our partners at the IBJ reported Wawa is set to break ground this spring on a $72 million location in Noblesville.
