Warehouse bringing big deals to Hendricks County

The National Retail Federation estimates more than 15% of the $966 billion in purchases made this past holiday season in the U.S. will be returned.
And a good chunk of those millions of returns are more than likely to end up at the AllSurplus Deals warehouse in Plainfield, eventually going up for auction on the company’s online hub.
Around INdiana Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman visited the warehouse on the latest edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
The 190,000-square-foot warehouse at 1399 S. Perry Road is filled with aisle after aisle of returned and overstock products from a variety of major retailers.
“Legos, electronics, kayaks, appliances, anything that’s sold at a retail store will come through here and sold on AllSurplus Deals,” said Jeff Rechtzigel, vice president and general manager of retail at AllSurplus parent Liquidity Services. “Once you’ve won and paid for your merchandise, you come to our warehouse here in Plainfield [and] we’ll deliver your product to your car.”
And anyone picking up a purchased product can give a final check before taking it home.
“Customers are able to test and inspect the merchandise that they’ve bought,” Rechtzigel said. “We have electronics stations where you can even plug in televisions, and if they see something they don’t like, they’re able to return it on site.”
However, once customers leave with their merchandise, there are no returns.
Rechtzigel said the company tries to move as much product as possible, with the goal of having items sold within 10 days of them arriving at the warehouse.
Liquidity Services is based in Maryland and operates eight warehouses in the U.S., according to our partners at the IBJ. The AllSurplus Deals brand is located within five of those facilities.
