Walmart to close South Bend store

(NYSE: WMT) has announced a new round of store closings nationwide, and one is in South Bend. In a WARN notification to the state, Walmart said it is shuttering a store on the city’s northwest side on April 21 and laying off 261 employees.
The notice did not give a specific reason for the closing of this store, however the company has previously said it is closing about 15 “underperforming” stores.
Walmart has a second location on the south side of South Bend, one in neighboring Mishawaka and Niles, Michigan.
According to a notice filed with the state, the company says associates who do not find a job at other Walmart locations or Sam’s Club stores after a 90-day paid job search period will be terminated, effective June 30.
