The company plans to open Village Medical practices in conjunction with four Walgreen’s stores across northern Indiana this year in Merrillville, Griffith, Portage, and South Bend.
Village MD says the partnership is part of its overall goal to open 600 Village Medical clinics at the pharmacy retailer in 30 U.S. markets over the next four years. In January, Walgreens announced plans to invest $1 billion to provide healthcare directly to patients through a coordinated care delivery model.
The company says by leveraging the physician and pharmacist under one roof, patients benefit from improved health outcomes and lowered cost of care.
“Our teams are led by experienced primary care physicians who deliver quality, coordinated care with the Walgreens pharmacy team,” said Brent Asplin, M.D., president of Village Medical. “As a result, we help deliver improved health outcomes and affordable care for more patients in Northern Indiana so they can enjoy being healthy and active members of their community.”
No specific timeline was given for the opening of the Walgreen’s locations. Last month, VillageMD announced plans to open free-standing, walk-in clinics in Indianapolis and Kokomo.
