Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Porter County is transferring the venue to Valpo Parks.
Earlier this year, the county celebrated the completion of $5 million in renovations for the venue at 104 Indiana Avenue, which included new seating, a new HVAC system, a remodeled lobby and bar, and exterior work.
Valpo Parks will assume day-to-day management and operations of the venue, the publication reported.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Memorial Opera House into the Valpo Parks family,” Director of Parks Kevin Nuppnau said in a statement to The Times. “We recognize the importance of this venue to our community and are committed to preserving its legacy while also exploring new and exciting opportunities to engage and entertain our residents and visitors.
The staff at the Memorial Opera House is expected to remain in place, and the venue will continue to host the same types of programming as it has in the past.
Porter County still owns the property, and Lakeshore Public Media previously reported that the county could transfer ownership to the city in December 2028, per the management agreement.
