(NYSE: VMI) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new, $30 million utility pole plant in Elkhart County. The Elkhart Truth reports the 75,000-square-foot facility in Bristol produces concrete utility poles.
The factory will eventually employ nearly 100 workers.
“We like this project for a number of reasons, but its diversity is one of the main reasons,” said Chris Stager, chief executive officer of the Economic Development Corp. of Elkhart County. “Valmont is definitely a good company; they’re providing a utility structure that’s going to develop new electrical infrastructure.”
The publication says the company has been operational since April and has delivered its first batch of poles to customers.
Stager says the plant will use about 45 million pounds of concrete annually to manufacture utility poles that can stretch to 140 feet long.
