Combining undergraduate, graduate and dual-credit students, enrollment totaled 9,286, up 1.2% from the previous year.
USI said it saw an increase in first-time, full-time freshmen students with 1,283, a 2.6% increase. The university also had a record 1,854 students enrolled in graduate programs.
Overall undergraduate enrollment saw a 2.3% decrease to 5,409, which the university attributes primarily to smaller classes in recent years.
USI touted a new record in students of color and international students, who make up 18.1% of the student population, up from last year’s record of 16.9%. The university is also seeing an increased number of male students at 37.4% this year.
“While we celebrate the increase in diversity at the University, we are committed to continually fostering a growing, inclusive community that champions the voices of all,” says USI President Ronald Rochon said in a news release. “We’re encouraged by the recent enrollment increase of men as we have traditionally enrolled a higher proportion of women students.”
USI says its students represent 87 Indiana counties, 47 states and 40 counties.
