Ron Rochon, who became USI’s fourth president in 2018, is leaving to become president of California State University-Fullterton beginning in July.
Rochon came to USI as provost in 2010 after serving as dean of the School of Education and associate vice president for teacher education at Buffalo State College in New York.
“It has been among the greatest honors of my life to serve as your Provost and President over the past 14 years,” Rochon said in a statement on the university’s website. “USI is uniquely a special place with wonderful and special people that I will carry with me every day going forward. Thank you for allowing me to respectfully serve this great community together with you. I will forever be a Screaming Eagle and wish continued success for each of you.”
Rochon’s final day at USI will be July 22. He said the university’s board of trustees will conduct a public meeting to appoint an interim president before his departure.
At California State University, Rochon will succeed interim president Sylvia Alva, who has led the university since last August.
“Dr. Rochon is an innovative and student-centered leader who fosters a culture of collaboration and cultivates a community of care at the institutions he has served,” Wenda Fong, chair of the CSU Board of Trustees said in a news release. “With a career-long commitment to student success and data-driven decision making, Rochon is an exemplary fit to lead the university and set an ambitious trajectory for CSUF’s future.”
Rochon is also a two-time honoree on IBJ Media’s Indiana 250 list.
