Bridges, a two-time USI alumnus, has served as vice president for finance and administration for the university since 2015.
The appointment was made one week after USI President Ron Rochon announced plans to step down before becoming president of California State University-Fullterton.
Bridges earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from USI in 1988 and began working for the university as a staff accountant the following year. He has held numerous positions at USI over the years before landing in his current position, serving as the university’s chief business and fiscal officer.
“Steve Bridges has demonstrated 35 years of dedicated service to the USI community as both an employee and alumnus,” Trustees Chair Christine Keck said in a news release. “A combination of Steve’s strong credentials and passion for the institution made him the top choice for Interim President. He has the full confidence of the USI Board as he takes on the challenge of leading our university in this interim period.”
Bridges will begin as interim president on July 20. The university plans to begin a national search for its fifth president this summer.
