Several USI programs partnered in bringing the grant to the university, including the College of Liberal Arts, the Roman College of Business and Outreach and Engagement, according to a university news release.
The grant program encourages local higher education institution to work with their surrounding communities to explore projects enhancing the quality of life in their area.
USI plans to work with the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership, or E-REP, to study the area’s needs and develop a proposal for further funding of up to $25 million over five years to carry out their identified projects. The deadline for their proposal is March 1.
“The College and Community Collaboration initiative enabled through the Lilly Endowment presents another opportunity for E-REP and USI to deepen our partnership, and our ability to serve and positively impact the Evansville Region,” E-REP CEO Tara Barney said. “The partnership between USI and E-REP represents how the Evansville Region is intentionally aligning assets, connecting key initiatives and facilitating public/private partnerships to advance the Quality of Place for current and future residents.”
Other Indiana institutions have also recently announced $250,000 grant awards from the endowment, including Anderson University, DePauw University and Manchester University.
