The new Doermer Family Foundation Immersive Laboratory will feature 360-degree camera technology and will have the ability to be transformed into an emergency room, moving ambulance or patient’s home, among other real-word situations, providing first-hand experience to students before entering the workforce.
The lab will be supported by a $250,000 gift from the Doermer Family Foundation and comes following a series of projects at Saint Francis’ Doermer Family Center for Health Science Education. Those include recent completions of a nursing resource center, graduate health science classrooms, an acute care classroom, sonography lab and more.
The university has committed $1.23 million to construction of projects in the Doermer Family Center. Additional funds have been invested in equipment and technology.
“Saint Francis alumni have proven again and again to be thoroughly prepared to enter any healthcare environment and provide immediate quality care,” Saint Francis Interim President Dr. Lance Richey said in a news release. “To ensure that never changes, Saint Francis continues to quickly adapt as the medical field advances. We will make sure our students have access to the most up-to-date knowledge and tools they’ll need to succeed.”
