That’s according to U.S. Veterans Magazine, a publication that promotes veterans and their accomplishments, which recognized the southern Indiana school as a top veteran-friendly school for 2024.
Cherie Leonhardt, the university’s manager of transfer admission, said the university is happy to receive the distinguishing mark from the magazine.
“We’re proud to offer a supportive environment where veterans can thrive,” said Leonhardt in a press release. “UE is a great place for student veterans—our size and close-knit community allow veterans to connect easily with faculty and peers, making the transition back to academic life smoother and more personalized.”
Nationally, the Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 provides funding to veterans who served after Sept. 11, 2001, for them to pursue post-secondary degrees. But, UE touts its school-specific Yellow Ribbon program that pays for tuition not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs to those who have served for three years of active duty since 2001.
The university says it also offers a special lounge area meant for only veterans who can connect or relax during the semester.
U.S. Veterans Magazine researches the nation’s employers, law enforcement agencies, veteran outreach programs, and schools for its Veteran-friendly status.
