Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the Hammond City Council approved a zoning variance on the dry cleaning and laundry service’s proposal, which involves an investment of up to $14 million.
UniFirst says it has outgrown its current location in the Lake County city. It has been there since acquiring Arrow Uniform in 2016. The company plans to bring a more than 65,000 square-foot facility to currently-vacant land. The proposal would double UniFirst’s Hammond footprint.
The company plans to house a fleet of 18 uniform delivery vehicles at the facility. The Times reports the land used to be home to an auto repair shop and gas station, but has been vacant for more than 10 years.
Unifirst says it will add a small number of new jobs as part of the proposed move.
