UE alumni gifts $340K for endowed scholarships

The University of Evansville is celebrating a nearly $340,000 gift from alumna Maureen Fitzgerald. The university said this week that the gift will support a $10,000 scholarship given annually to a deserving non-traditional student.
The goal of the Fitzgerald Endowed Scholarship, UE said in a news release, is to promote accessibility to quality education for non-traditional students.
“The financial burden of pursuing higher education is often a barrier for adult learners,” Cindy Felts, senior director of the Center for the Advancement of Learning at UE, said in the release. “This generous donation will help reduce this obstacle, allowing more non-traditional students to achieve their educational goals while balancing work and family commitments.”
Fitzgerald graduated in 1963 from what was then known as Evansville College—the institution was renamed the University of Evansville in 1967—studying sociology and psychology.
“Maureen Fitzgerald’s unwavering commitment to aid those in need, particularly adult learners pursuing their academic dreams, was truly a testament to her remarkable character,” said Abigail Werling, UE’s vice president for university advancement.
