Trine did not disclose a reason for Shannon’s resignation.
In a statement last week, Board Chair Rick James extended the “appreciation of the Board and the University at large for Dr. Shannon’s deep commitment to Trine University, and we wish him and his family the best in the years ahead. He has fostered a culture of academic excellence in his years with Trine as President and formerly as Vice President of Academic Affairs.”
Shannon was selected to succeed Earl Brooks, who retired as president but continued with the university in the newly created role of chancellor where he worked on special projects for the board of trustees.
Trine said in a news release that Brooks will return to the role of president while the board of trustees conducts a nationwide search for a permanent successor to Shannon.
“We are indeed fortunate that Dr. Brooks has offered to serve as president during the search and subsequent transition, and we are more than confident that this thriving university will continue to prosper under his leadership,” James said.
The university said the board has assembled a working group to begin the search process. The board expects to have a new president selected within the next year.
Trine University is located in Angola, about 170 miles northeast of Indianapolis and 40 miles north of Fort Wayne.
