The 110,000-square-foot building represents a $42.5 million public-private partnership that included $4 million from the first iteration of the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, or READI.
The facility features numerous new classrooms, laboratories, study spaces and room for academic and counseling services. Trine said the medical center also includes a Simulated Patient Care Center with mock surgery, emergency room and exam and patient rooms.
Trine says the medical center “has the capacity to employ” 100 faculty and serve nearly 700 students. The building is right next to the Parkview Regional Medical Center on the northeast side of Fort Wayne. Trine has formed a partnership with Parkview where employees there will receive training opportunities.
Trine President Earl Brooks said in a release that the new project represents a solid commitment to the future of health care in the state.
“We are grateful for the support received through the READI program as we equip Trine students to help meet the growing healthcare needs of this region,” Brooks said. “This investment will reap many dividends as Trine graduates work and live in the area, not only improving healthcare but the overall quality of life as they serve in their communities.”
Trine officials say the new space allows the university to add new programs. The building is officially named the Brooks College of Health Professions. It was designed by Design Collaborative and constructed by MKS Construction.
