Trine dedicates SDI Center for engineering, computing

Trine University has dedicated the Steel Dynamics Inc. Center for Engineering and Computing building on its Angola campus. The $12.5 million, 40,000-square-foot expansion of the university’s engineering facility is home to Trine’s biomedical engineering and computer science and information technology departments.
The building features the latest technology, as well as labs and classrooms designed for flexible use and a learning lab with a maker space.
“We are extremely proud of the standard of excellence that we have established at Trine University,” Trine President Dr. Earl Brooks said during the dedication ceremony on Sept. 30. “This commitment is not only demonstrated in the successes and accomplishments of our students, but in the facilities like the one we stand before today.”
Last year, the Steel Dynamics Foundation Inc. in Fort Wayne pledged $1.5 million toward the project.
“The continual growth of our business requires a ready supply of well-trained engineers, and many who have contributed to the success of Steel Dynamics have come from Trine University,” Mark Millett, president of Steel Dynamics, said last year. “We are pleased to support this expansion in Trine’s facilities and programs, and look forward to the benefit this will provide, not only to SDI, but to industry throughout the region.”
Trine says the center also offers a new gathering point and café, which is available to the entire campus community.
