Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana says the state has contracted with Evansville-based Deaconess Health to provide the shots at the plant in Gibson County. Deaconess started operating the vaccination clinic at TMMI this week.
The company it hopes the on-site clinic will make it easier for employees to receive the vaccination and ease the demand at community vaccination sites.
The automaker says the vaccine is not mandatory, but it does encourage its workers to consider receiving the vaccine.
“Vaccination is our way out of the COVID-19 pandemic, to return to more normal lives and a stronger economy—locally, regionally and nationally,” said Dr. Brad Scheu, chief medical officer, Deaconess Clinic. “We are glad to have a part in vaccinating the TMMI workforce, helping them create a safer, healthier workplace.”
TMMI is one of a dozen large Indiana employers working with the state to conduct mass vaccination programs.
