The 2016 U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships will bring in an estimated $9.5 million to the area.
The tournament will continue through June 29. More than 4,000 players, coaches, teams and tournament officials will be attending. Along with spectators, an estimated 10,000 room nights are expected to be booked at area hotels.
"We’re honored to be hosting the prestigious US Youth Soccer Regionals event at Grand Park," said Westfield Mayor Andy Cook. "An event such as this makes a substantial impact on our local economy and allows us to showcase our ‘Westfield Welcome’ hospitality."
The tournament will feature teams from 13 states. The event comes less than three weeks after the Region II Presidents Cup, also held at Grand Park, which was expected to create nearly $4 million in economic impact for the Westfield Area.
