Fehsenfeld, a graduate of Purdue University and decorated World War II veteran, will be remembered Saturday during a Celebration of Life, at The Center on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
In October 2017, Governor Eric Holcomb signed an executive order naming Interstate 865 after Fehsenfeld "in recognition of his service and contributions to the State of Indiana and the nation." Holcomb released a statement following Fehsenfeld’s death.
Fred was a rare visionary leader, a revolutionary builder, who had a giant heart for our state and nation. His lifetime of service and philanthropy will continue to impact the lives of Hoosiers for our next 200 years. Janet and I will miss his wit and thankfully carry with us his inspiration to always innovate and improve. We extend our sincere condolences to the entire Fehsenfeld family and ask Hoosiers across the state to join us.
Congressman Todd Rokita (R-4) also issued a statement.
I loved Fred because of his dedication and leadership that spawned innovation throughout Indiana. It was an honor to work closely with him throughout my time in Congress, and he will be sorely missed. Indiana and America are a better place because of Fred Fehsenfeld. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
Fehsenfeld’s passing came a month after he was inducted into Purdue’s Boiler Business Exchange Hall of Fame. Purdue’s Krannert School of Management released a video celebrating his achievements at the induction:
