Subscribe NowTechPoint on Wednesday announced its acquisition of the Indy CIO Network, a peer group and idea forum designed to support chief information officers at businesses throughout central Indiana. The state’s nonprofit growth accelerator for the tech sector said it is rebranding the organization to the Indiana CIO Network with plans to expand its footprint throughout the Hoosier State.
The Indy CIO Network was founded in 2011 by Jeff Ton, a former IT leader who has held roles at California-based InterVision Systems and is the former CIO at Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana.
Ton says the idea for the organization was born out of a lunch meeting with four other CIOs.
“We ‘talked shop’ and exchanged ideas at that first meeting about how to approach various workplace information technology challenges, and it was so valuable that we decided we needed to meet every month and later added dinner events to keep each other up on the latest issues and trends,” Ton said in a news release. “It’s only become a more valuable resource. I’m gratified that TechPoint sees the value in it and will take it to the next level.”
TechPoint says the network’s monthly breakfast meetings average about 20-30 people and feature an informal discussion on a central topic. The network also hosts about six sponsored dinners that provide networking opportunities and a presentation to educate CIOs and senior IT leaders on a specific topic.
Ting Gootee, president and CEO of TechPoint, says the time is right to bring the network to a statewide level.
“Indiana is really at an inflection point,” Gootee said. “We have a great opportunity to drive digital innovation at a speed and level never before available, and expanding the conversations and opportunities of the Indiana CIO Network will be key to accomplishing our vision of moving the state forward fast across all sectors and from every corner.”
The rebranded Indiana CIO Network is open to current and former CIOs, current senior information technology leaders, and CIOs or senior IT leaders in job transition.
TechPoint says Ton will continue to be involved in the Indiana CIO Network and help facilitate future meetings.
