The companies say the purchase is unrelated to Sweetwater’s $76 million expansion project announced last week. As part of the deal, Aunt Millie’s corporate offices will remain on the site.
Aunt Millie’s Fort Wayne Bakery closed in April, affecting more than 90 jobs. The company will maintain 125 jobs at its corporate office through a leaseback agreement with Fort Wayne-based Sweetwater. The prominent Sunbeam sign will also remain on top of the building.
"The property’s proximity to The Landing, riverfront development – including the Sweetwater Stage – and other ventures makes it central to Fort Wayne’s future," said Sweetwater President Chuck Surack in a release. "We are excited to be part of downtown revitalization and plan to continue to invest in and help support further growth in our city."
In addition to the former bakery and office site, the property includes about eight acres of other buildings and parking lots.
