The investment will help retain 87 full-time plant employees and add 10 full-time positions, the city said in a news release.
Sarah Sommer, director of communications for Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton’s office said in an email to Inside INdiana Business that the duration of the abatement would be 10 years, but she did not specify a value amount.
“Spartech is excited about the opportunities this substantial investment brings, which reflect our commitment to growth, innovation, and improving operational efficiencies,” Spartech CEO Jim Elliott said in the news release. “It includes the acquisition of a state-of-the-art piece of equipment which will bolster our production capacity and empower our teams to deliver superior products to our valued customers.”
Spartech, based in Maryland Heights, Missouri, near St. Louis, makes a variety of plastic materials for a host of industries, including automotive, construction, health care and consumer goods.
In 2021 the company bought Crawfordsville Industries LLC for an undisclosed amount, IIB reported at the time. The Indiana plant specialized in manufacturing thin-gauge extruded polyethylene and polypropylene sheets that can be converted into numerous products, such as storage boxes.
“Spartech is a valuable member of the diverse manufacturing sector in Crawfordsville, and we are excited about the future opportunities created by this renewed level on investment,” Barton said. “Their commitment to further strengthening and growing their Crawfordsville operations further solidifies their future in this community.”
The new equipment is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
