The filing, dated Sept. 8, comes nine months after the trucking company was acquired by Transport Acquisitions.
Elmer Buchta was founded in 1938 in the Pike County community of Otwell as a livestock and farm equipment hauler. The company now provides bulk, dry van and pneumatic trucking services.
The company said in a news release that the goal of the filing is to “restructure our debt, streamline our operations and position us for future expansion.”
In the filing, Elmer Buchta reported assets between $1 million and $10 million, and liabilities between $10 million and $50 million. It also says the company has between 100-199 creditors.
In an email to Inside INdiana Business, Elmer Buchta CEO Douglas Prohaski said the response from creditors has been very positive.
“We do not anticipate any disruptions in our day-to-day business,” Prohaski said. “We will continue to service our customers at a high level and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with our suppliers.”
The company has about 100 drivers, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s website. Prohaski said there are no plans to lay off any employees.
“We are proud to announce that, as part of our expansion plans, we have immediate openings for new driver positions with more to come,” Prohaski said in the news release. “This move not only underscores our dedication to our current staff, but also demonstrates our optimism about the future.”
Prohaski did not have an estimated time frame for when the company could come out of bankruptcy.
In addition to its headquarters in Evansville, Elmer Buchta has Indiana locations in Otwell, Petersburg, Linton, Chandler and Lamar.
