South Bend Details Historic Parks Investment
Buttigieg says the budget makes sure growth "is felt in every part of the city."

Subscribe NowSouth Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg has announced the largest parks department investment in the city’s history. In a statement, the city says the "My South Bend Parks & Trails" program will "fundamentally change the landscape" of the city’s shared green spaces.
Buttigieg says the plan is a response to community feedback and will include park, trail and riverfront upgrades. He says the initiative will "address shortcomings in equity and safety, provide economic and health benefits and improve ecological standards."
The city says it developed the plan through hundreds of hours of public meetings and dozens of resident engagement sessions. It also draws from several city, parks and neighborhood plans. It will include increased park and riverfront connectivity, increased ADA compliance and enhanced security and lighting. The effort will also focus on amenities, such as new playground equipment and splash pads, renovated recreation centers, a new ice rink and event space and upgraded nature trails.
