South Bend International Airport, one of three Indiana awardees, is receiving $1.8 million to reconstruct an existing taxiway.
The funding, which comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is supporting a total of 45 airport-related infrastructure projects in 22 states.
At South Bend International, crews will reconstruct 8,500 feet of Taxiway B pavement, which has reached the end of its useful life, a news release said. It’s part of what is now a $90 million realignment and ramp reconstruction project that is currently in year four.
The airport says the project will also correct the taxiway’s alignment geometry to meet FAA design standards, enhance the maneuvering of aircraft on the airport terminal apron, and improve the overall operational safety of the non-movement area.
“Infrastructure is one of the largest challenges airports face,” South Bend International Airport CEO Mike Daigle said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. We are appreciative to be awarded additional federal funds from the FAA’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law program towards this project.”
Additionally, Indy South Greenwood Airport is receiving $294,000 for an apron expansion project, while Arens Field in the Pulaski County town of Winamac is receiving $233,000 for hangar improvements.
