The project is part of Smithville’s $10 million of investments in rural Indiana over the last 10 months.
The Stinesville project, which is expected to provide access to 382 homes, is being built out in three phases. The second and third phases should begin in 2024, according to the company.
“Over the past year we focused on upgrading legacy copper service to high-speed fiber in a number of our long-time rural service areas, which has been a continuing goal of Smithville,” Smithville Chair Darby McCarty said in a news release. “By leveraging private investments, we can move faster and more efficiently to bring much-needed fiber capacity to these remote areas.”
Smithville also currently has fiber projects underway in several areas, including in southeast Greene County, the Stanford area southwest of Bloomington, the Indian Hills region in the Gosport area of Owen County, and western Monroe County.
