Subscribe NowAs Elanco Animal Health broke ground last week on its $100 million global campus in downtown Indianapolis, Chief Executive Officer Jeff Simmons called it a project that is building for the future. And he made a point of what he meant by the word building.
“This is not about building the noun, but building the verb,” said Simmons. “We are building a lot of things here. We’re building the next era of Elanco. We’re building a post-covid headquarters that’s going to have amenities and top research facilities and an incubator for new companies from High Alpha and others. It’s building the west side…it’s connecting the Valley to the circle of the, city changing the whole skyline.”
Simmons talked about his vision for the company on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
The headquarters will be built on a portion of the former General Motors Stamping plant site, along the White River just west of downtown Indianapolis and has been several years in the making.
Elanco’s $6.9 billion purchase of German-based Bayer Animal Health in 2020 vaulted the company to the second-largest independent animal health company in the world. Such growth prompted the company, in part, to further examine its business and research space in Greenfield.
In December 2020, Elanco announced plans to invest $300 million statewide in its operations, including $100 million to build its new headquarters in Indianapolis.
