Senate Republicans Make Leadership Changes

Subscribe NowIndiana Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-16) has made several leadership changes, including the appointment of a new Senate majority floor leader and chairman of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy. The appointments follow the recently-announced resignation of Sen. Brandt Hershman (R-7), who will formally step down next week.
Sen. Rodric Bray (pictured, R-37) will replace Hershman as Senate majority floor leader beginning January 2. Bray, who currently serves as assistant majority floor leader for parliamentary affairs, will also remain in his role as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
"Serving as the Majority Floor Leader is a significant responsibility that I do not approach lightly," Bray said in a statement released Thursday. "I know I have big shoes to fill following the retirement of Sen. Hershman, and I am grateful to Sen. Long for entrusting me with this leadership role. I will undertake the duties of this position with the respect of my fellow senators at the forefront of my mind."
Long has also selected Sen. Travis Holdman (R-19) to replace Hershman as chairman of the Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee. He will also take Hershman’s seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"Sen. Travis Holdman is more than ready for his new role as the chair of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy," said Long. "He has consistently shown the keen acumen and strong leadership skills required to take on this most important committee chairmanship. Sen. Holdman is also a man of unquestioned integrity and character, and I know he will handle this new job as expertly and effectively as he has every other important task assigned to him in the Senate."
As a result of his new appointment, Holdman will step down as chairman and member of the Senate Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee. That position will be taken by Sen. Chip Perfect (R-43).
Long’s office says any additional changes in committee assignments for senators will be announced in the coming days.
