Schools Line Up to Help Saint Joe Students

Marian University, the University of Saint Francis and Trine University are among those joining Purdue University in offering assistance and resources to students.
Last week, the Saint Joseph’s College Board of Trustees voted to suspend activities on the Rensselaer campus, citing a "dire" financial situation. School officials had said the college would need $100 million, including $20 million by June 1, to maintain its operations.
Marian University says it will provide Saint Joseph’s College students a "seamless transfer process," including financial assistance guaranteeing current students will pay the same out-of-pocket tuition that they are paying currently. The University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne is offering transition awards of up to $9,500 per year and housing awards of $1,000 per year for SJC students. The school says those funds are "over and above" existing transfer awards. Trine says transferring students "will receiver personalized care from an admission counselor" to help them through the transfer process.
Purdue University had previously offered assistance. In a letter to SJC President Robert Pastoor and Vice President For Academic Affairs Chad Pulver, Purdue President Mitch Daniels offered "concierge-lever service" to transfer candidates.
