The Elkhart Truth reports the company has begun work on a $10 million expansion to build two new facilities which, when complete, would add up to 450 jobs in the Elkhart County city.
One of the facilities will house the production of Grand Design’s Solitude line. Chief Executive Officer Don Clark tells the publication that will free up existing space to expand other production lines. The second factory will house a new RV model that is expected to be announced in January.
The Solitude facility is expected to open in May 2018 with the second facility coming online later that year. Clark tells the Truth he believes the growth in the RV industry is showing no signs of slowing down.
"It’s a good time to be in the RV industry," said Clark. "I don’t see anything that is going to come in and interrupt the steady, consistent growth, barring a black swan event that no one can predict."
U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-IN), U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (R-2) and Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger were on hand for the ground breaking ceremony. The announcement comes more than a year after Grand Design broke ground on an $11 million expansion, which aimed to add 100 jobs.
