Our partners at WTWO-TV report more than 5,300 students from more than 70 countries have applied to attend the school.
Tom Bear, vice president for enrollment management at Rose-Hulman, said in addition to just the record number, it is also the most diverse group of students that has applied.
“What we want to do is create a learning environment that’s very diverse, but also very representative of the world, because our students who are going out are going to have to prepare to work in a complex, global society,” Bear told WTWO. “They’re going to have pretty significant problems, and you have to do that around people from different backgrounds and different parts of the world.”
Bear added the Terre Haute community will benefit, particularly as prospective students come to visit.
About 150 students have been confirmed for next year’s class, according to Bear. The deadline for college selection is May 1, and Bear said the final number will be around 600.
