Romanian native brings a taste of home to Fort Wayne

Subscribe NowA transplant from eastern Europe is getting ready to open a new bakery in Fort Wayne that offers a classic Transylvanian pastry. Timea Csibi, who was born and raised in Romania, is set to open Chimney Cakes Bakery.
Csibi is a client of the Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center and received business start-up guidance and marketing-related assistance.
She and her husband moved to Fort Wayne in 2017. The SBDC says Csibi worked as an human resources manager for several years, but missed the tastes of home. That longing prompted Csibi to pursue her dream of a bakery that specializes in treats from her upbringing.
The SBDC says the new sweet and savory shop specializes in authentic in chimney cakes, a recipe that dates back to the 1400s to the Transylvania region of Romania.
Chimney cakes are made from a sweet yeast dough that is rolled into a long rope and baked around a wooden cylinder. They are baked in a specifically designed oven.
The unique bakery opens Saturday. It’s located 1202 W. Main Street in Fort Wayne.
